The Journey
From intuition to instrument
A story of rhythm, discovery, and the transformative power of sound.
Where It Began
I picked up drumsticks at 13, learning jazz by ear rather than from sheet music. That intuitive approach - trusting my instincts, improvising, letting rhythm flow naturally - became the foundation of everything I do. It taught me that music isn't something you master from a textbook. It's something you feel, discover, and make your own.
The Handpan Discovery
Years later, traveling through Bali, I heard a sound that stopped me in my tracks. The handpan. It was unlike anything I'd encountered - ethereal, meditative, yet rhythmically complex. For the first time, I could compose full songs as a solo musician, channeling everything I'd learned from jazz, rhythm exploration, and improvisation into a single instrument. It transformed my creative practice completely.
The Path Unfolds
I've worked as a performer and freestyle musician across the UK, Bali, and Sri Lanka. I also spent several years teaching rhythm and music in Sri Lanka - leading weekly drum circles and one-on-one lessons. Each experience has deepened my understanding of rhythm as something universal, something that connects us all.
Coloured Sound
Before music became my primary focus, I studied Graphic Design at Sheffield Hallam University and spent years as a visual artist specializing in Liquid Art - the 1960s liquid light show aesthetic. I worked as a VJ, performing live visuals synchronized with music. These disciplines converged into what I call 'Coloured Sound' - immersive experiences that blend sonic and visual healing.
The Philosophy
Guiding you back to yourself
Teaching through intuition, not rigidity.
Your Natural Rhythm
My teaching approach is the same one that shaped me: intuitive, improvisational, guided by what feels right. I don't impose rigid technique or force you to play a certain way. Instead, I help you discover your own natural rhythm - the unique musical voice that's already inside you waiting to emerge.
Sound and Wellbeing
Sound can have a powerful effect on how we feel. I aim to create experiences that help people slow down, breathe, and reconnect - whether that's through a live session, a workshop, or a moment of music in the middle of a busy day.
The Jazz Foundation
Jazz taught me to trust my ears, to play by feeling rather than formula. That same spirit guides my teaching. There's no single 'correct' way to play. There's only what resonates with you, what moves you, what helps you express something real. That's what I help students unlock.
